Expat is short for expatriate. Expatriate, containing the words ex and patriot, is a noun meaning a person who lives outside their native country. A great incentive for people to leave their native country is job perspective or educational enlightenment. Expats therefore are popular in economically attractive regions. With Philips and the Technical University of Eindhoven, the TU/e, the international community finds it increasingly more attractive to come and live temporarily in the city of Eindhoven. As a mainport in the Netherlands, the region of Eindhoven gains attractiveness and therefore more and more expats are preferring Eindhoven.
